Programme Action
is the term used to describe the service element of Soroptimist International, and is at the heart of the organisation - from Club to International level. Much of what takes place at Club level is Programme Action, such as:There is flexibility for Clubs to tailor their Programme Action to areas of importance within a broad framework of contemporary issues relevant to SI's overall aims.
This
is the reason to be a SOROPTIMIST. It reflects the Vision, Core Purpose and Core
Values of SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL.
Together through INTERNATIONAL GOODWILL and
UNDERSTANDING & FRIENDSHIP we will strive for:

2003-2007
PROJECT
INDEPENDENCE - WOMEN
SURVIVORS of WAR
Our
existing International Project for 2007-2011 aims to help women who have
suffered the traumas of war, genocide and other horrors to reclaim their lives.
Over these four years, we hope to raise at least $1.2
million to provide nearly 2,000 women with skills that they need to rebuild
their lives after war.
Our Role in the project is FUNDRAISING, through
funds raised worldwide. SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL will be responsible for
opening fully operational offices in KIGALI, RWANDA and KABUL, AFGANISTAN and
also expanding services to women in BOSNIA.
Programme Focus 2003 - 2007
The
SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMME FOCUS is updated every four years at the
INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION.
Economic and Social Development
Women will live and work in safe
and equitable environments with equal opportunities for advancement.
a) Develop
programmes and partnerships to eradicate the extreme poverty and hunger of women
and girls.
b) Improve
societal and workplace conditions to enable women to achieve their potential.
c) Increase
women’s involvement in management and decision-making.
Education
Women and girls will enjoy enhanced status and will
be enabled to achieve their full potential throughout their lifespan.
a)
Work for universal primary education and access to lifelong learning for
women and girls.
b)
Work for universal access to quality education and training opportunities
for women and girls in technology and non-traditional occupations.
c)
Facilitate the understanding of the role and contribution of men and boys
to achieve gender equality…
Environment
Women will be equal partners in the process of managing natural resources,
maintaining biodiversity and achieving sustainable
communities.
a) Improve
and increase access to safe drinking water as a basic human right.
b)
Support sustainable development that includes improved protection of
ecosystems.
c)
Increase firm distribution of resources to those in need.
Health
Women will have optimal mental and physical health
through their lifespan.
a)
Actively promote awareness of women’s needs and their role in combining
HIV/AIDS.
b)
Improve nutrition and access to health care and medical
supplies/medicines for women and children.
c)
Decrease maternal and infant mortality rates.
d)
Support end of tobacco usage. Lobbying for the ratification and
implementation of World Health Organisation’s Framework Convention on Tobacco
Control.
e)
Eliminate drug and substance abuse.
